February 2001 Train Orders Session
In February 2001, La Mesa Model Railroad Club had its last Train Orders Operation Session before the Bakersfield Yard was shutdown in anticipation of construction of the mezzanine viewing platform.  Usually held four times a year, it gives the members and the public an education on how real railroads operate, using real schedules and train makeups. It is also one of the few times that the public can see our members' extensive collection of brass steam engines, such as the
Cab-Forwards that are pictured here.  The Cab-Forwards were used by the Southern Pacific Railroad to eliminate the backwash of smoke while going through the many tunnels of the Tehachapi Pass area.
